Local restaurants and public houses abound and offer a wide range of fare, from the traditional country meals to French, Italian, Indian and Chinese cuisines.

There are leisure centres at both Gillingham and Shaftesbury, with swimming pools and all the usual sporting facilities. The local area also provides outdoor bowls, two golf courses, horse riding and coarse fishing.

The local Saxon hilltop town of Shaftesbury situated three miles to the east, features the ancient attraction of "Gold Hill" (as seen in the Hovis advert). It also enjoys extensive views of the Blackmore Vale from its surrounding park walks.
