Chickerell village has a general store, Post Office, newsagent, hairdresser, library, doctor's surgery, chemist and three churches. All of these are within a few minutes walk of the Annexe, together with a pub & hotel/restaurant, both offering good food. There are many supermarkets in the area and numerous places to eat out.

Weymouth, with it's safe sandy beach, bustling harbour and shopping area, is only three miles to the east and can be reached by regular buses from Chickerell, if you want to leave your car. The historic county town of Dorchester is 8 miles north and the attractive village of Abbotsbury with its famous Swannery and Sub-tropical gardens, 6 miles to the west. There is so much to do in the area from visiting Stately homes, museums and gardens to activities such as, golf, horse riding, bird watching, indoor/outdoor bowls, tennis, tenpin bowling and all manner of sea and beach activities.
